Purposes of a Synod Assembly:

We gather in assembly:

• to worship as a synod, gathered around God’s Word and Sacraments;
• to listen to one another, learning from and being inspired by God’s Word for the sake of God’s mission;
• to deepen our relationships in the synod—meeting, learning, worshiping, laughing and enjoying one another’s company;
• and to deliberate as a synod, carefully discussing and prayerfully deciding about issues before us.

It is very important that all voting members—lay and rostered—attend the entire assembly. A sermon will be provided by Bp. Wohlrabe on the synod website by May 1st so that congregations can have lay-led worship on May 15th, enabling all pas

Registration and housing materials will be avialable closer to the assembly date.

Assembly Materials

The synod does not do a mass mailing of pre-assembly materials to voting members. All synod assembly voting members are strongly encouraged to read all of the following materials prior to the start of the synod assembly. Voting members might want to do some of this reading “online” or by downloading the materials to their personal computers/laptops or other digital devices.

In terms of making printed copies of these materials, we offer the following guidance:

1. You certainly may choose to print copies of all materials for each voting member from your congregation.
2. If you choose not to make a personal copy of every item for every voting member
   • Please make a personal copy of all the items marked in bold. The work of the assembly will be enhanced if every voting member brings to the assembly a personal copy of each of these items.
   • Feel free to make one copy per congregational contingent of voting members for the items not bolded. You may wish to put these items in a 3-ring binder that can be accessible to all voting members from your congregation during the assembly plenary sessions.
