TAKE THE HEALTH ASSESSMENT

take the Mayo Clinic Health Assessment and help the synod earn a 2% ELCA health contribution discount. The ELCA Board of Pensions is offering a modified version of the discount in 2010.

The percentage of ELCA-primary plan member health assessment participation needed to earn the discount is 65% (down from 75%).The window for earning the 2% discount is Jan. 1 - April 30, although the assessment remains open through Sept. 30.

If, as a synod, we reach 65% participation by April 30, we will earn a 2% discount on all 2010 health contributions (retroactive to Jan. 1, 2010). This means the discount is now "all or nothing."

Worth Quoting

Do not dwell upon your inner failings... Just do this: Bring your soul to the Great Physician - exactly as you are, even and especially at your worst moment ... for it is in such moments that you will most readily sense His healing power.
~ Teresa of Avila

Humor Me!

A doctor died and went to heaven. At the pearly gate he was asked: "Have you ever committed a sin you truly regret?"

"Yes," the doctor said. "When I was an intern at St. Peter's Hospital, we played St. Luke's Hospital in soccer for the championship. I was goalie and I took a bribe to throw the game. St. Luke's won. Even though I was young at the time, I still regret my transgression."

"Well," said the gatekeeper. "I'll overlook that. You may enter."

"Thank you very much, Saint Peter," the doctor said.

"I'm filling in for St. Peter while he's at lunch. I am St. Luke."

MEN'S MISSION

Building Men for Christ Building a Spiritual Foundation
Building Men for Christ training event for men and congregational leaders was offered on January 22-23 at the South Campus of Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo. Stand for Welcome Sunday

Bishops of the ELCA Immigration Ready Bench and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service are encouraging congregations to hold a Stand for Welcome Sunday in February or March. A Stand for Welcome Sunday can increase members' awareness about the difference people of faith can make on behalf of migrants at risk.
Stand for Welcome Sunday resources include a bulletin insert with stories, prayer, and actions your congregation can take; a mythbuster that reveals the facts about immigration; Bible study to help your congregation respond faithfully to immigrant concerns and postcards to download and send to members of Congress.
