On
August 28-29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina next brought deadly wind,
rain and flooding to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gulfport and Biloxi,
Mississippi, and other areas along the Gulf Coast. On September 24,
2005, Hurricane Rita hit communities near the Texas-Louisiana border.
ELCA Domestic Disaster Response (and Lutheran Disaster Response, our
collaborative ministry with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) will
coordinate our emergency and long-term response with our other
faith-based and community disaster partners. Even as we learn the full
extent of the damage done by these hurricanes we do know that our
church is making a life-saving difference. Lutheran Disaster Response
has and will respond by offering hardship grants to those in need,
providing emotional and spiritual care to survivors and caregivers,
coordinating recovery volunteers, and caring for the special needs of
children through Camp Noah day camps.
Your gifts to ELCA Domestic Disaster Response, designated for
Hurricanes 2005, will ensure our long-term and effective response.
All--100 percent--of your gifts for the Gulf Coast Hurricanes will go
to help individuals and communities rebuild their lives following this
disaster. Visit the "How
You Can Help" page often to
learn how you can respond.
