Assembly Celebrates Service, Launches Malaria Campaign

"We are all 'pieces of work,'" declared assembly keynoter Dr. John Nunes, "we are God's pieces of work," citing Ephesians 2:10 ("created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.") Nunes, executive director of Lutheran World Relief, spoke to over 500 persons who participated in the 2012 NW MN Synod Assembly, May 11-12 at Concordia College, Moorhead. Assembly participants lived out the assembly theme, "To Be. To Do. Joy in Serving" by scattering across the Fargo-Moorhead area, participating in dozens of service learning opportunities on campus and around the community. [...]

2012 Bishop's Series: "Where Are You Leading Us, Lord?"

"When the days drew near for [Jesus] to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; but they did not receive him…"

If in his time on earth Jesus had ever filled out an IRS Form 1040, what occupation might he have listed, right behind his signature, on the bottom of page 2? "Son of God?" "Long-Expected Messiah?" "Savior of the World?"

Any of those responses would have been accurate, of course. But, they'd never have "registered" with the Roman empire's tax authorities. I think something more on the order of "itinerant preacher" or "traveling healer" might have made the most sense. Whoever Jesus was, whatever Jesus did, he was always on the move. [...]

Important: Congregation Reports Overdue

The deadline for submitting Congregational Reports (statistical / parochial reports) was February 15 but we still need them! Bishop Wohlrabe is shooting for 100% and we are only a little over half way there. These reports are a very important reflection of our synod and are used in various ways for planning and budgeting.

If you are one of the congregations who have yet to complete your report, please do so as soon as possible! The report is very easy to complete and only takes a few minutes. Questions? Contact Marsha at the Synod Office at 218-299-3019.

Pilgrimage to India:

A Journey of Faithful Accompaniment by Members of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod

November 3-16, 2012

The pilgrimage will involve will feature opportunities to visit major India tourist sites like the Taj Mahal along with exposure to numerous churches and ministries in the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) of southern India.

Members of the Global Mission Table hope to recruit up to 25 persons from congregations of the synod, at least one person from each of the ten conferences of the synod among the travelers. [...]

During the third annual Give to the Max Day on Nov. 16, more than $13.4 million was raised to benefit Minnesota nonprofit organizations. The NWMN Synod was one of the nonprofit organizations that participated. Sixty donors gave just under $7,000 toward the synod's Forward Together annual appeal. Thanks to all who participated! [...]
