After celebrating a three week Season of Creation in October of 2024, the church council at Tonseth Lutheran Church approved a decision to switch to compostable products on Sunday mornings. The OTC Recycling Center in Fergus Falls has an organics recycling program. So, all food waste and compostable plates, napkins, and cups are thrown into the compostable garbage liner and taken to the organics recycling bins in Fergus Falls each Sunday. Because Tonseth has a rich history of eating a meal together after Sunday services, this allows the church to have a zero waste event each week, avoiding contributing to a landfill while helping to turn their trash into useable compost to help to enrich the land! The church was able to purchase 1000 compostable plates, cups and forks for $264 or .26 cents per person per serving. Great job, Tonseth!
